Overview
Nestled northwest of Mzuzu near the Zambian border, Vwaza Marsh Wildlife Reserve spans 978km² and was established in 1977. Today, it's a prime spot for elephant and buffalo sightings and offers a quintessential Malawian safari experience. The reserve features forests, grasslands, and marshy plains, with Lake Kazuni attracting over 500 hippos and crocodiles. Herds of elephants and buffalo roam freely, while lions, leopards, and wild dogs occasionally make appearances. Birdwatching enthusiasts will delight in spotting over 300 species, including waders like storks and herons. Kazuni Safari Camp within the reserve offers basic yet picturesque accommodations in four en-suite bungalows, complemented by stunning views. Guests can self-cater or opt for dinner prepared by the staff, and guided game drives or walking safaris are available for an additional fee. Accessible via well-maintained roads from Mzuzu, a visit promises amazing wildlife encounters amidst breathtaking scenery.
